School on Saturday
SAS - 6th Form and Saturday
You might expect teenagers to be tucked up in bed on a Saturday morning but not in the case of Banovallum and QEGS. In a new initiative to support students in their long-term preparation for GCSE examinations in the summer, Banovallum has employed and trained sixth form students to run a Saturday peer revision workshop for Year 11 students from both schools, every week between now and the summer exams. Although staff are present, the revision mentoring is led entirely by the QEGS sixth formers and if the early feedback is anything to go by, it’s going to make a real difference.
One Banovallum student said “ I can take criticism from someone my own age because they understand where I am coming from and I’ve already gained knowledge from my mentor.” Another commented on how he felt it was helping him to become independent, “ I am able to learn in a different way and it allows me to think more about revision.”
