Revision Strategies

At Banovallum School, we aim to provide as much support as possible for our students preparing to sit examinations.

In lessons, students are given regular opportunities to engage in retrieval tasks and to practice their examination technique.

Throughout Years 9, 10, and 11, all subjects set homework based around revision tasks and study skills. This homework allows students to consolidate the knowledge learnt in class and allows teachers to assess any areas which a student may be finding more challenging.

Students in Years 10 and 11 are welcome to attend after-school revision sessions according to the following timetable:

Important points regarding revision sessions:

  • Attendance to revision sessions does not replace revision at home.
  • Attendance to revision sessions is dependent on students working to the best of their ability in class and completing all homework.
  • Students should attend revision sessions prepared with work to complete, they should not expect to be re-taught content.
  • Whilst in the past, separate days were offered for core subjects, due to the additional lessons these subjects are allocated the above schedule allows a wider variety of sessions to be attended. Students must not simply focus on revising core subjects; it is an expectation they achieve 5 or more good passes at GCSE.

In addition to the daily revision sessions, Year 11 students are also encouraged to attend the Saturday morning revision sessions that run from January to March each academic year. These sessions are led by Sixth Form students who have recently completed courses relevant to those Year 11’s are revising.
