Coronavirus Update 17th March 2020

Coronavirus Update 1: 17 March 2020

As the current situation is constantly changing, it is our intention to try and keep parents/carers and students updated on a regular basis. As yet, we have not had any clear guidance from the government on the timings of school closures. In fact, it is highly likely that any announcement on school closures will be made through the media and therefore we will find out about the situation at the same time as parents and carers. We have provision in place as detailed by my letter of 13 March and we expect students to be completing the work to the best of their ability whilst they are off school.

Last night’s guidance was rather contradictory and left schools in a difficult situation but we remain open until told otherwise. In the meantime, we will seek to update/reassure you where possible.

Year 11 Exams

•             Whilst we have had nothing concrete from Ofqual, unofficial discussions with the various exam boards would seem to suggest that students will not be penalised for any absences. Special consideration will either be applied to the whole cohort or to specific groups/students as appropriate

•             Students who miss any coursework tasks in Food, Drama, DT, Music, Art & Photography due to self-isolation will not be penalised and appropriate measures will be put in place to ensure that they are completed prior to the exam board deadlines

•             Should schools be closed, unofficial briefings from the exam boards again suggest that extensions will be put in place for coursework and students will not be penalised. As yet we have no guidance on the actual exams – we will update you as soon as we know anything

Year 10

•                Year 10 Trial exams are due to take place immediately after the Easter holidays – we advise the students to continue to prepare for these as normal and an announcement will be made depending on the situation

•                Work Experience – as this takes place in July, we are still planning for it to take place as should the students. We will assess the situation nearer to the time and will follow government advice

Whole School

•                The year 11 Gig has been cancelled

•                The Chocolate Bingo Event has been cancelled

Thank you once again for your continued support in this challenging & very fluid situation.
